Mathsisfun - Mainly aimed at KS3, this site is about the fun bits of maths and does contain some useful content suitable for KS2 pupils. Developed and maintained by a teacher in the Southeast of the UK.

Kali - This page is amazing! You must go there - I know I could stay for hours! This page features a symmetrical pattern generator the likes of which I have never seen. It's like a kalidascope that you can control. Teachers might want to make and then print examples of symmetrical patterns (great for wet-play colouring activities, too!) and children could use it to create their own patterns. Wow! What a page!

Base Ten Blocks Program - An animation to help teach about place value and the four operations. The user can pick up blocks, move them about, break them, up and glue them back together again. Comes complete with a sugested lesson plan.

SuperKids Math Worksheet Creator - A great resource from SuperKids. An American site, but still very useful and a potential big time-saver. You choose what you want your pupils to practice and then select the other parameters (whether you want decimals etc.), click the button and program generates a worksheet for you.

Aunty Math - A bit American, but a good idea. Children are presented with a different maths puzzle each day. The solution can be sent in and there are teacher's tips for each challenge. There is also an archive of past puzzles.

allmath.com - the people at Arbor Media Inc. (a web company based in Michigan) have put together this useful site. It has some helpful resources here such as the metric converter - well worth remembering - online activities such as the 'Flash Cards' and the Magic Square game and links to other 'math' sites. Lots of useful little bits here: thank you to Eve for finding the site!

National Numeracy Strategy - from the DfES the online version of the framework. Perhaps not as easy to follow as the folder, but now also contains the new Units Plans. When I last went here, the new Spring Term Unit Plans were downloadable before they were available in school.

TeachingTables - Looks very similar to primarygames.co.uk (the free online maths games). The games here are dedicated to learning tables.

TeachingTime - Another great site similar to primarygames.co.uk, this time to help pupils learn to tell time.

Ask Dr Math - A good site (although American) where pupils or teachers can ask maths questions of Mr Math. Maintained by Drexel University.

New Zealand Maths - Contains some useful resources for UK teachers such as lesson plans.

Word Problems For Kids - A Canadian site recommended by Liz Bishop which did not seem to be working on the day she recommended it. Appears to work now, though!

The Maths Co-ordinator's Help file - An online version of the Walsall LEA's resource. Some helpful ideas about mental maths in particular.

Maths Mega Store - Useful for the lesson ideas. These come under the following categories: mental maths, practical, investigations, projects and early years. The activities are mainly taken from Ginn publications, but there are also ideas sent in by teachers. There is also a resources section, 'tasters' of Ginn publications, and a links page.

Lesson Starters - A website by Birmingham City Education Department of focused warm-up ideas. The ideas have mainly come from an NQT training day held in 1996, but the site invites teachers to send in their own to build up the database.

www.tesprimary.com - general and algebra based problems, recommended during the 2-day numeracy INSET. You need a password (that changes monthly) from the magazine, but there are free problems. The magazine may not be published for much longer, so snap all the old Brainteasers while you still can

NRICH Mathematics Enrichment Club- recommended during a 2-day numeracy INSET as a good place for problem solving and investigation ideas. Find problems from 'Bernard's bag' and the 'Prime' section, then search for similar problems. A well-organised site.

Count On - recommended as a great place for general investigations and problems. A large selection of games, resources and links. Try to beat the computer in board, number and strategy games!

learn.co.uk - also recommended during a 2-day numeracy INSET for general maths resources.

The National Numeracy In Cumbria - for general and word problems. Recommended by Liz Bishop.

Maths Web - Leicestershire's Numeracy Website - for general and word problems. At least this saves you having to type out 'Leicestershire'!!

Mega Maths - interactive quizzes and diagrams to make maths fun! Test your times tables here as well.

Times Tables - Test yourself on your multiplication tables with this online test from Topstudy.com - an excellent Irish site. (More subjects can be found at Topstudy.com)

BBC Number Work - turn numbers into adventures as you travel around the world, collecting gold coins! Lots of challenges including addition, subtraction, cracking codes and using a digital clock.

Maths Mastery - click on 'My Maths Class' and then 'Cyber Challenge' and follow instructions. American, but fun and easy to follow.

Children's Money World - meet the Moneykins! Lots of quizzes, colouring games, rhymes and songs. Worksheets available from here as well.

The Pyramid Challenge - Try out your estimating skills by trying to see how many double decker buses can fit in an Egyptian Pyramid . Plenty more info on this website provided by the British Museum - needs
