Royal Academy of Arts - A "visually stunning" website, superbly well designed by e-2. The extensive website provides information about current, forthcoming and touring exhibitions. The Academy is mainly concerbed with examples of British art from the 18th Century to the present day. The site contains articles, information about artists and exhibitions and some images. There is also information about the academy's educational services. Thanks to Ray for recommending this site.
Artlex - art dictionary - definitions of more than 3 300 art terms. The site also contains loads of internal links giving examples of syles and illustrating points along with related quotations. This site is really aimed at the teacher or older student than the child as it is quite comprehensive! Thanks to Ray for recommending this site.
AccessArt - Winner of the BECTA/The Guardian UK Education Website Award 2002, AccessArt features many online resources for teachers, children and artists such as online workshops and arts educational activities. Workshops currently include 'Drawing Together', 'What is Sculpture?', and 'Photograph'- a workshop about setting up a darkroom, making a camera obscura and a pinhole camera and more.
Art Attack - The website of the hit CiTV art programme. Loads here for both adults and children. Some excellent, imaginative ideas.

Asian Art - on-line journal for the study and exhibition of the arts of Asia

BBC Arts - Another good page from the BBC, this time covering most aspects of the arts.

Drumcroon - education art centre - An NGfL site with information about artists, useful resources and information about media.

Dylon - Advice sheets with step-by-step instructions for techniques and suggested activities for the classroom.

Impressionism - Lesson plans and images to introduce impressionism to children.

Kidz Draw - With a section dedicated to children who are 6-10 years old, this site contains examples of art work from well-know to lesser known artists. An American site.

Louvre Museum - Take a tour of this famous museum. This link takes you straight to the english version of the site.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York - The homepage of this museum containing works by many of the grand masters.

Museum of Web Art - Good place to start is the Kids Wing. Several examples of interrative web art here.

Smithsonian Museum of African Art - Extensive exhibitions and information about of African art.

National Society for Education of Art and Design - There is information here about teaching and learning resources, events, in-service education, publications, research, careers in art and design, and more. Links are provided to key art and design education sites worldwide. Part of the NGfL, visitors are required to register as a member.

The Vincent Van Gogh Gallery - This certainly comprehensive online gallery claims to have 100% of Van Gogh's paintings, drawings, watercolours, graphic works, letter sketches and letters.

National Gallery of Art, Washington - lots of quality images, including a fairly good kids section. You can take in-depth, on-line tours.

TOP LINK! The Tate Gallery, London - Home of the national collections of British art and international modern art. Online exhibits include 8,000 works of art. Contains links to The Tate Modern Britain's new national museum of modern art, housed in the former Bankside Power Station.

KinderArt - tons of ideas for art activities. Just take your pick from a weekly-updated menu. Go to the Kinder Favourites for great ideas. Aimed at teachers, but full of fairly easy to follow activities.

The National Gallery, London -Houses the National Collection of western European painting, with over 2,300 paintings covering all schools of European art from the 1200s to 1900s.

The National Portrait Gallery, London - Founded in 1856 to collect portraits of famous British men and women, the collection represents the most comprehensive of its kind.

Art Kids Rule! - a whole load of interactive art stuff is linked to this site, including an online paint program that lets you send in your pictures, and a link to a site that lets you make your own movie (after signing up).
