Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) - An anti-smoking website with facts and figures, pictures, information on smoking and health as well as the tobacco industry. There is also help on quitting smoking.

Antibully.org.uk - This site is rather old-fashioned in appearance, but contains masses of helpful and well-organised information about bullying from all persprectives.

Britkid - A website about race and racism intended mainly for children who do not have frequent contact with minority ethnic groups.The site is based around nine imaginary characters from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, and users are invited to 'hang' with one of them. Mainly aimed at mid-teenagers, but some useful material for perhaps all age groups.

bullying.com - A site giving advice to teachers and parents about bullying.

Cancer Research UK - More good reasons not to smoke here. When I visited this site in December 2002, the website was raising awareness of children's cancers.

Coolmeals - bright and colourful and very interactive, this site is all about healthy eating. It includes facts about food as well as online activities and printable worksheets. Each child can register for free and enter the "Body Lab". They are given a user name and a password, and then they are able to enter what they have eaten for each meal. The "lab" provides information and gives them a score based upon how healthy their meal was.

Crash test dummies - visit this site about safety

DARE - Drug Abuse Resistance Education - A charity project that helps children deal with issues relating to drugs and violence. Includes a useful booklet for parents about drugs. This site is mainly aimed at teachers and parents.

Dare2Dream - From the makers of spotpages.co.uk, Ranvilles Infant School... A resource for all thinking and learning teachers with PSHE lesson ideas and thoughts about education. Thanks to John for this submission.

e-pals - A website that allows pupils to join "the world's largest online classroom community". Pupils and whole classes can find e-mail penpals through this moderated site, join in moderated discussion boards and sign up for monitored email accounts. Potentially very useful.

Explore Parliament - This website aims to "provide resources and support for students and teachers to increase their knowledge and understanding of the role, work and history of Parliament and its relevance to them". Not sure how useful this is. It should be - but where does it fit in?

Galaxy-H - Galaxy-H is a government website aimed at Key Stage 2 pupils and covers the main areas of personal, social and health education (PSHE) and citizenship set out in the National Curriculum, the framework for PSHE and citizenship and the National Healthy School Standard. This colourful site covers such topics as healthy eating, physical activity, personal hygiene, smoking, drugs, alcohol and road safety.

Kids Health for Kids - worried about an aspect of your health, or just curious. Check out this site for lots of information.

LifeBytes - This website produced by the government is aimed at children aged 11 and upwards and contains frank and easily accessible information in a colourful way. Categories include sun safety, smoking, sex and relationships, physical activity, mental health, healthy eating, drugs and alcohol. Not all of this site is suitable for younger pupils.

Media Smart - this site describes its self as "a media literacy initiative initially focused on helping children to interpret and understand advertising." If pupils find and click on the "kids" button, then can take the quizz, read top tips and even create their own brand! Low on content, but some very important meassges.

NCH - It's not your fault - This site deals with divorce, offering advice to all parties, including parents as well as children. A little slow to load, but easily-accessible and original material.

Red Box - At first glance, I was not sure about this site by Her Majesty's Treasury, but it becomes very addictive! Certainly aimed at upper KS2, pupils are put in charge of a budget for a "town" which they must raise money for by answering questions which teaches them about tax and public spending. Very interactive, but could take a long while to load on slow internet connections.

Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) - RoSPA's Safety Education department supports those who work with children and young people to promote safety. Their website has a dedicated education section, featuring many resources tailored to fit the National Curriculum.

The Bicycle Helmet Initiative Trust - The Bicycle Helmet Initiative trust (BHIT) aims to promote the wearing of bicycle helmets by the under 16 age group on a national scale. And since the wearing of bicycle helmets has been shown to reduce the risk of head injury by 85%, this is a site worth visiting.

The British Heart Foundation - Ideas for keeping children fit and healthy with articles such as "how what you eat and drink affects your heart".

The British Nutrition Foundation - A website about nutrition and healthy eating. A site for adults, really, but packed with information about all aspects of diet.

Time For Citizenship - A site by primary schools for primary schools and the emergency services. Incorporates termly topics on Citizenship; lesson plans for teachers; a discussion area and an Art Gallery for children; a section for Police to exchange examples of best practice in their area.

UNICEF - The international charity campaigning for children’s rights has an educational section with a specific focus on Citizenship. Online resources and a resources shop are available.

Young Voice - This British website aims to make young-people's views count. The website gives voice to the views of thousands of young people on issues such as bullying and when parents split up. They argue that those that make policy decisions should take account of the views of the people that are affected by the decisions.
