Anglia Campus While apparently very good with useful ICT-based activities for most subjects, this is a subscription service costing £49.99 per year. Now, you know what I think of subscription services for underpaid teachers...

Ask Jeeves Highly publicised search engine which claims to understand plain questions. Personally, I find it less helpful than other search engines.

Becta The website of the British Educational Communications and Technology Agency.

BT Safe Surf Fun, colourful and animated safety advice for children when using the internet from BT. Aimed at KS2 age children, there is a quiz to take part in at the end of the presentation.

Curriculum Online - A new site launched in January 2003 from the DfES which calls itself 'a one-stop online catalogue of digitallearning resources' Resources include lessons plans, CD-ROM's, interactive videos, simulation software, assessment materials and online services - all organised by the National Curriculum programmes of study and the QCA schemes of work. This website lists a wide range of both free and priced resources for every subject and is well worth a visit. Inlcudes ratings and reviews from teachers.

Google Arguably the best search engine on the internet. Accurate, fast, friendly and easy to use. They do not charge webmasters to put their websites on their index - Google was the first search engine to index this website - so expect fuller results. Google Safe Search is the preferred search engine of schoolsource.info.

HotBot Another good search engine. Part of the Lycos family, and as such charge webmasters to submit their websites.

ICT Advice - a very full site developed by BECTA offering support for staff involved in implementing ICT in the classroom. The site caters for all levels of experience, from those new to computers to experienced ICT co-ordinators. Provides resources, case studies and advice on using ICT in the classroom. A superb site that defies full description here!
ICT Solutions For Teachers - an intriguing site selling some potentially very useful management software such as an internet control and monitoring program, and a 'Shutdown Manager'. There are other solutions available, of course, but as an ICT co-ordinator myself - I am particularly interested in the 'Make pupils agree to Acceptable Use policies' solution. Downloadable trials are available.
ICTeachers - Aimed mainly at ICT teachers (I think), this site is also packed with resources for the three core subjects as well as links to other useful sites.
Implementing ICT - an online publication by NAACE which "focusses on four key themes relating to the effectiveness of ICT in schools: leadership and coordination , teaching and learning , managing infrastructure and measuring success". Lots of advice here, but a lot to digest in one go!

Learning Alive RM's education portal as featured on many school computers.

My Rules for Online Safety Safety rules for the safe use of the internet by children produced by SafeKids.com, which also offers guidelines for parents

Primary Networks - Dedicated to providing primary schools with advice and resources to effectively use the Internet in the classroom.

RM - The homepage of RM. Contains some useful information for teachers.

Spotpages.co.uk - Although this site is squarely aimed at KS1 teachers, there are not that many pages about teaching ICT on the 'net, so I have included this one anyway (if only for the dancing man).

Superhighway Safety - A DfES site containing both background and technical information on many aspects of internet safety.

TEEM - teachers evaluating educational multimedia - an independent website, established in 1998, that features 750 different CD-ROms and websites that are used in the classroom. Evaluations written by TEEM-trained classroom teachers give users clear and detailed advice on every title, enabling readers to buy and use software with confidence.

The Big Brown Envelope - a site that has been developed to allow teachers to share ICT resources. The resources are all free to download and are available for other curriculm areas as well as ICT.

The Quality Information Checklist: QUICK - A guide for older juniors (and some teachers!) to help decide which information on the internet is useful through an eight point checklist. Contains quizzes and puzzles to help refine those skills.

The Big Bus Test Maker - this fantastic resource allows anyone to make an online, interactive quiz. Three types of quiz can be made, all of them self-marking. The resulting quiz can be saved and then used online on a website or offline on any computer with any browser that supports JavaScript. So simple - I have used this as an assessment activity where year five pupils have created their own quiz to place on the school intranet. The only limitation is that the quiz must be designed in one visit.

UK Plus UK Plus is a useful search engine which operates a no-adult content policy, meaning that all unsavoury content is filtered out before it gets to you. So you don’t need to worry about bumping into anything unpleasant while you enjoy your rummage around the web.

Uk Schools Webring - Pretty self-explanatory, really. Works like any other webring, linking together websites by UK schools.

Yahoo UK and Ireland Very popular directory - been around for ages and still don't charge webmasters to index their sites. Find schoolsource here

Yell.com Online yellow pages.
